What's up, Iokaste?
The story of Oedipus, son of Laius, King of Thebes, who unknowingly kills his own father, is told with few props, rapid role changes and cabaret songs. Later, as a reward for freeing Thebes from the Sphinx, he takes Iocaste, the king's widow and thus his own mother, as his wife. Bodo Wartke's excellent stage version of the classic myth, which still has an impact today (keyword: Oedipus complex), is based on Sophocles' work of the same name, one of the outstanding works of world (theater) literature.
"Oedipus the King" offers a barrier-free introduction to a justifiably famous legend and combines comedy and tragedy to create a fantastic theatrical experience - making education fun!
