I don't care what you two think of this painting!

Serge has bought a painting for 100,000 euros. The painting shows white horizontal stripes on a white background. The new owner proudly presents the expensive acquisition to his long-time friend Marc. But his reaction is completely different than expected. He laughs out loud at the absurdity of the picture and what he sees as the obscene price. The two friends get into an argument about it, so the third person in the group is asked to look at the picture and comment on it. When Yvan, contrary to expectations, says that the work of art triggers something in him, Marc loses his temper. The heated discussions soon become more than just about the painting, but about the foundations of their friendship.

In her multi-award-winning play "Art", which premiered in 1994, Yasmina Reza sheds light on the special intricacies of a male friendship. She poses the question of how a friendship can endure an unexpectedly profound conflict.
