Kunst geht fremd ...und kommt an

In the organizer's words:

Since 2011, Lower Franconian museums have been exchanging works of art and objects once a year as part of the joint"Kunst geht fremd" ("Art goes foreign") campaign; the now 18 museums thus impressively illustrate their network and also show that a new context also changes the view of the respective work.

This year, the Museum im Kulturspeicher(MiK) is receiving a loan from the Knauf Museum in Iphofen. The replica of an ancient Egyptian relief "Walk in the Garden" shows the meeting of a young royal couple. The original dates from the Armana period and probably depicts Tutankhamun leaning on a stick. Standing next to him is one of Akhenaten's daughters. In one hand she is holding lotus blossoms and with the other she is presenting her king with mandragora fruit, which was considered an aphrodisiac at the time.

The small but special replica was well received by visitors - as was Philipp Stöhr's "Biedermeier Bride and Groom" in room 03 (right wing of the museum, 1st floor), where it will be on display for a few months - linked by the centuries-spanning and always fascinating theme of love.

The MiK, on the other hand, is bringing the etching"Kleine Genovefa" (2008) by Steffi Mayer from its own collection to the Franconian Open-Air Museum Fladungen

Art goes astray

Art has already gone astray 14 times in Lower Franconia - each time under a different motto. This year's theme is the multifaceted concept of arrival.

18 museums are sending their exhibits on a journey, which will hopefully be well received not only physically, but also in terms of content. And more than that: they are intended to show surprising angles and refreshing perspectives by presenting them in unusual contexts. It is about arriving in life, being born, and arriving in a certain social class, in a new country or a new home. It is about people's longing to arrive in the land of their dreams, about the sheltered arrival of saints and gods in a certain place and about people who probably never arrive at their (life) destination, if they have one at all. Finally, it is about parcels or letters that can travel thousands of kilometers and tell of life abroad or at the front.

18 houses cordially invite visitors on a journey of discovery throughout Lower Franconia. This is made possible by the long-standing support of the district of Lower Franconia. Make your way through the diverse Lower Franconian museum landscape and let the exciting (art) stories be told to you!
