Kiel celebrates the "Long Night of Democracy" for the first time on October 2, 2024

On October 2, 2024, the "Long Night of Democracy" will take place for the first time in Schleswig-Holstein. On the night before the Day of German Unity, people will philosophize, discuss, enjoy music and culture, laugh and celebrate democracy in a variety of formats. The Long Night inspires people to participate in democracy.

In Kiel, a broad network offers a colorful program for everyone from 4 pm to 11 pm. The active Kiel network includes the Förde-vhs, the German Trade Union Federation, the association ZBBS e.V., the State Commissioner for Political Education, the Heinrich Böll Foundation Schleswig-Holstein, the Creative City Department, the Kiel City Library, the Kieler KulturForum, the Schleswig-Holstein University Society, Kulturstation Toweddern and the WiPo student council of the Christian-Albrechts University.

You can enjoy an evening full of art, culture, knowledge and discussions about our democracy at seven venues.

• In the Landeshaus, the central theme of the evening is technology and media and their role in democracy
• At the Kieler KulturForum, there is the opportunity to approach the topic of democracy through various artistic and cultural approaches - everything from singing together to improvisation and party participation is included
• in the district library in Mettenhof, the pictures from the #IHaveTheVote photo course will be shown and participation is encouraged in the Democracy Circus;
• at ZEIK in Gaarden, there will be discussions about democracy in Arabic and Farsi and democracy theater will be performed;
• in Elmschenhagen, a special bench will be used to discuss the current state of our democracy;
• the Gewerkschaftshaus in Legienstraße is open to everyone, including for exciting discussions at the long counter of democracy and tolerance;
• the opera house invites you to discuss the influence of right-wing extremists on the cultural scene, with guests from Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein.
