Linda is fifteen and would love to run in front of a car. But two people are still stopping her: her only friend Kevin, who despairs that the world is on the brink. And Hubert, eighty-six years old, a retired lifeguard who hardly leaves his apartment, toasts carrots and waits for his wife, who died seven years ago. Three times a week, Linda spends the afternoon with Hubert to relieve the Polish caregiver Ewa, who carries out her job with quite unconventional means. Everyday life is sometimes more or less successful. Linda deals with Hubert's advancing dementia with sensitivity and humor and tries to keep the old lifeguard's memories alive - of summers at the lido or his love for his wife Rosalie.
