Thomas Steinfeld presents the new life and epoch portrait of Goethe
Thomas Steinfeld presents a new, comprehensive biography of Goethe's life. Against the backdrop of a time full of radical upheavals between the French Revolution, Napoleon's rule and industrialization, Sturm und Drang, Weimar Classicism and the Restoration, a picture emerges of an intellectual who could write nothing without thinking the opposite, a conservative who was always in tune with the times - and a clever, curious and sometimes lonely man who wrote some of the best works there are in German literature.
Thomas Steinfeld, born in 1954, was head of literature at the FAZ, features editor at the SZ and cultural correspondent in Italy for many years. His most recent publications include "Nils Holgerssons wunderbare Reise" (2015) and "Italien. Portrait of a foreign country" (2020).
The evening will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Albert Maier.
