Lesung und Kreativwerkstatt: „Regentag“ mit Jens Rassmus in der Fröbel-Buchwerkstatt

What can you do in the rain?! Jens Rassmus has lots of ideas... bundled together in a beautifully illustrated book for children.

The Kiel-based children's book author and illustrator Jens Rassmus reads from his book "Regentag", published in 2024. The children's imagination is also called upon - what would they do if they couldn't go outside in the rain? Pencils and creative materials are provided for their ideas. Together with Jens Rassmus, they will create a variety of pictures and drawings. The author also has his ukulele with him, as there is a song to accompany the book "Rainy Day", which is sung together.

• Materials are provided, you don't need to bring anything. Recommended for families with children aged 3 and over.
• No registration required. Free admission. Open family offer, coming and going allowed - the author will read twice between 2 and 5 pm.

About the book
Heavy rain outside the window, the whole world black and white. Two children sit helplessly in their room, but then they push open other, fantastic windows! "Imagine..." is the magic formula they use to transform the world and themselves. Jens Rassmus swaps ink for acrylic paint and creates vast, luminous spaces for the children's imagination! Small as thumblings, they climb through the undergrowth of a fairytale forest and fly into the sky on the back of a beetle, only to stride across fields and cities as giants shortly afterwards, with tiny cars on tiny roads beneath them. Jens Rassmus tells of the power of the imagination in panels and full-page pictures without using any words. In the blink of an eye, it turns a bucket into a deep well and places a ball of pure gold at its bottom.

"Regentag" was published by Peter Hammer Verlag in 2024 and was named by Deutschlandfunk as one of the seven best books from 2024 for young readers. It was also shortlisted as one of the "Most Beautiful German Books" by Stiftung Buchkunst.

About the author and illustrator
Jens Rassmus is a draughtsman, illustrator and author. Born and raised in Kiel, he studied illustration at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, Scotland, from 1992 to 1998. Fantasy and humor play an important role in his stories. The protagonists are mostly children or animals. They are about dreams and adventures, the strange and the fantastic and about the fact that things are often different than expected or go differently than planned.
