A live documentary with Stefan Erdmann

Calving glaciers, brightly colored mountains and hissing geysers, thundering waterfalls, endless expanses and glowing volcanoes, all bathed in fascinating light: nature filmmaker Stefan Erdmann has been traveling around Iceland for over 20 years. After more than 30 trips and 20,000 kilometers by car and on foot, he has created a very personal media symphony of images, music and narration. Whether on the black lava beach of the North Atlantic, thundering on the meter-high waves, in the mystical Westfjords, with Icelandic horses or on a multi-day highland crossing full of solitude - with his impressions, experiences and adventures, he has created a unique declaration of love to the island state in the far northwest of Europe with incredible recordings and specially composed music. "To be in constant motion and to be guided by curiosity and the desire to discover and experience is my way of being on the road... I always let myself be driven by wind, weather and my feelings... my intuition to be in the right place at the right time with my cameras. It takes a lot of time and effort and you are rarely rewarded for your efforts, but... when the right moment arrives and exactly what you wanted happens in front of you, then all the effort is put into perspective and you are just happy that all the unsuccessful days and weeks before have led you to exactly this moment, where this special experience was waiting."

Stefan Erdmann is a trained typographer and graphic designer and was managing director of his own advertising and footage agency in Munich for over two decades.

In 2001, he fulfilled a childhood dream with a trip to Iceland and returned to Germany with the certainty that he had discovered "his country". Numerous trips to Iceland followed.
In 2006, he made the decision to turn his back on the advertising industry to start a new life and realize the vision that has stayed with him since his first encounter with Iceland, the film project ISLAND 63° 66° N.
His first film "A fantastic journey through a fantastic country" was released in 2007 and was received with great enthusiasm by the public.
2008 saw the filming of Iceland's most famous long-distance hiking trail "Laugavegur". In 2009, he set off with his Icelandic friend and pilot Þórhallur to film Iceland from an ultralight aircraft. The result is a unique film about the world's largest volcanic island, "Iceland from above".

Erdmann always makes all of his films alone (camera, editing, art work) and, thanks to his musical training in his early years, is also responsible for the music in his films, which Hamburg film music composer Jens Lück composes and produces in close collaboration with him.
