Lovebird Festival: Neues Musikfestival für Düsseldorf

This summer, Düsseldorf will experience a completely new music festival. Under the name Lovebird, the event agency Schlieter & Friends has developed a concept that presents different music genres and integrates other art forms. Although jazz takes center stage, it does not dominate the offering, but rather forms the basis for a wealth of new sound mixtures: jazz and hip-hop, jazz and electro as well as indie, funk and soul. The aim is to create a festival from an expanded range of music and additional fields of creativity, which, like a harmonious work of art in itself, encourages people to participate, listen, watch and reflect. In short: a feast for the senses. The non-music area includes: a presentation of the documentary "Jazzfieber" about jazz in Germany with a focus on the role of Düsseldorf as a jazz city in art house cinemas, an exhibition of Blue Note covers by Dietrich Rünger in the Part2Gallery, a record exchange and a karaoke talk with the Musikalisches Poesiealbum as well as a music city tour.

Locations include: Der Hof, Jazz-Schmiede, Maxhaus, Theatermuseum, Goethe-Museum, Schleuse Zwei in Bilker Bunker, Robert-Schumann-Saal and Stadtstrand.

The background: after the Jazz Rally was canceled in autumn 2023, Petra Schlieter-Gropp and Nils Gropp immediately announced that they wanted to create a new offer for music fans on their own. Their agency, which had been responsible for organizing the Jazz Rally for many years, did not want to simply leave the expertise and contacts to many musicians behind, but wanted to create a new festival of creativity with new ideas. Especially as they were and are convinced that there is a large fan base for it in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area.

Now the concept is largely complete, the first contracts have been signed and talks with sponsors and supporters are underway. And the date has already been set: Lovebird will spread its wings and take off for the first time on June 7 and 8.

The name and logo Lovebird stand for a parrot that is considered to be a very social and peaceful creature. The aim is to take inspiration from this friendly bird: Lovebird will be sustainable and tolerant. Fitting at a time when people are reflecting on what is important to them - living in an open culture that is accessible to all.

We are delighted that the Sparda-Bank West Foundation for Art, Culture and Social Affairs has already pledged its support for the new festival and will also be involved with an open-air stage on the market square. It is offering its Jazz Award for up-and-coming music, for which applications can be submitted until April 8 at www.sparda-jazzaward.de.
