Igor Levit is said to have once said that this young pianist from Vienna (who has also been his student since 2022!) is more talented than he is. The jury of the ARD Competition 2022 would probably not have disagreed with him: In addition to first prize, Lukas Sternath also scooped seven special prizes and is now well on his way to the piano Olympus. The program he has prepared for his debut in the Nikolaisaal is correspondingly challenging. In Beethoven's "Eroica Variations", a harmless dance melody becomes the starting point for increasingly bold sound experiments. Robert Schumann's "Ghost Variations", the last work before his great collapse in 1854, is a reflection of the composer's torment by ghostly apparitions. In Liszt's Dante Sonata, the path then leads from a musical depiction of hell directly to heaven, finally bringing the longed-for redemption.

Lukas Sternath is also the soloist in the 5th symphony concert on January 18, 2025 at 7.30 pm.
