How dark is the human soul? In her lecture "Sadists: Deadly Love", Lydia Benecke gives an insight into the different psychological profiles of harmless and dangerous sexual-sadistic people: On the one hand, the "completely normal life" of those people who consensually live out their sexual sadism with masochistic people is explained. On the other hand, the thoughts and feelings of dangerous, criminally sexual-sadistic people are portrayed - the best-known representatives of which include the serial killers Jack the Ripper and Ted Bundy. In this type of sadist, imaginative mind games are transformed into extreme cruelty, resulting in a criminal energy that has few equals.

Lydia Benecke has been working as a criminal psychologist since 2009, specializing in relapse prevention, and is therefore familiar with the dark side of our fellow human beings. In her illustrated lecture, she explores questions such as:
- What distinguishes one sexually sadistic person from another?
- What needs drive them?
- What defines their personality?
- How do they organize their partnerships?

She also explains why Shades of Grey does not provide a realistic insight into the relationships between people who practice BDSM and why Christian Grey is a dangerous rather than a consensual sexual sadist.
