Shakespeare's probably most famous "Ride from Hell", the so-called "Scottish Play", is condensed here to two characters and its glowing core: Macbeth and his Lady Macbeth not only dream of grasping the Scottish royal crown and unrestricted power since this has been whispered to them promisingly by supernatural powers - they cruelly put their plans into action until they fall into the abyss over their own ambition and hubris.

John von Düffel, author, translator, dramaturge and, from 2025, director of the E.T.A. Hoffmann Theater in Bamberg, is known for his fine, clever and powerful adaptations of the classics. He has created Macbeth as a concentrated, dense, psychological chamber play. It is both a political thriller and a haunting illumination of a complex couple's relationship. The captivating suggestive power of the language develops a pull that is impossible to resist.

Jacqueline Macaulay and Hans-Werner Meyer, a married couple in real life, play the Scottish royal couple.

John von Düffel has not only created a fabulous translation, he has also concentrated the action entirely on the drama of the couple's relationship and cleverly shortened the drama, which is peppered with royal power games and murderous orgies, so that the cycle of madness and violence can be understood. - The world
