"But never, never does the soul sleep." (Jean-Luc Nancy) - Bloody deed after bloody deed lines his path to the throne. Spurred on by a mysterious prophecy and his ambitious wife, Macbeth first eliminates the reigning king, followed by anyone else who could jeopardize his place in the front row. There is no alternative to murder, the need to maintain power escalates into a blind mania that ultimately destroys the perpetrators themselves.
With a composition that closely follows the bloody plot and opens up the space for the human abyss, Giuseppe Verdi tells of the destructive pull of power and draws the psychogram of a couple who not only lose their moral compass, but also their human substance.
