In this concert, performance artist mandhla. delves into the multifaceted spectrum of African spirituality, Afrofuturism and trans* identity: Using music, dance and spoken word, the performance serves as a canvas for her own identity journey, interwoven with experiences of love, longing, intensity, intimacy, hope, joy and death.

Visual media, experimental staging strategies, costumes and dance combine to create a captivating narrative: traditional South African Ndebele fabrics and surfaces, together with light and projections, create dynamic perspectives that become a physical experience with ambient and noise music as well as ballroom vogue music.

mandhla. is a trans-feminine, gender non-conforming multimedia performance artist, born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa. She currently lives in Berlin. Her music consists of a mix of experimental R&B and soul music, which she combines with visual projections and dance. Her music is about the everyday trials that trans*, non-binary and femme* migrants experience in terms of love, identity, sex and acceptance. In their practice, they influence concepts of beauty, fashion, voguing and music. mandhla. has presented their work on various stages and festivals such as the Whole Festival, Münchner Kammperspiele, Gropius Bau, Kulturbrauerei and HAU. Performances by mandhla. take us into a world of beauty through wild, queer representation and black femme* power.
