Michael Armann Trio: Winterreise

In the organizer's words:

On the anniversary of Schubert's death on January 31, the Michael Armann Trio will once again perform excerpts from Schubert's "Winterreise" for jazz trio.

The "Winterreise" is the western blues collection par excellence. Composed in the fall of 1827, one year before Schubert's death - it couldn't be more blues.

But does it also work in a jazz trio?
After examining the material, it was clear that Schubert had to be taken seriously.
No quoting of melodies underlaid with modern rhythms and jazz chords.

No: exploration. How can you shed new light on Schubert's "Winter Blues", distil it anew, reinterpret it? There are "only" 12 pieces. The material is treated differently - always with respect - retaining the original piano setting and melody. Improvisational ideas are distilled from the harmonic sequences. The grooves emerge from the composition.
