Rome, mid-1940s, liberated from fascism, oppressed by patriarchy. A time whose backwardness calls for black and white images. Delia (Paola Cortellesi) is the wife of Ivano (Valerio Mastandrea) and the mother of three children. Two roles to which she devoutly submits under the rule of her violent husband and, on top of that, supplements the household budget with many small jobs as a nurse, laundress or in an umbrella maker's shop in order to somehow keep the family afloat in their basement apartment.
