Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major K. 488, Symphonies No. 20 in D major K. 133 and No. 39 in E flat major K. 543

Maxim Emelyanychev's affinity for Mozart goes back a long way; even his nickname in the boys' choir was "Mozart". This special affinity also plays an important role in his work with the original sound ensemble Il Pomo d'Oro, which he has directed since 2016: a complete recording of all 41 of Mozart's symphonies was recently launched, in which one early and one late symphony are juxtaposed per release. At the Musikfest, the festive and pompous 20th Symphony will be combined with the 39th Symphony, which is considered the least known of his last three symphonies. Maxim Emelyanychev should quickly change that with his pulsating reading between poetic reverie and playful intoxication. The Piano Concerto No. 23 will also be performed, for which the conductor, an equally excellent pianist, will move from the podium to a copy of a Walter fortepiano from 1792. He will elicit the right mixture of airy brilliance and gripping expressivity for Mozart's piano concerto, which is considered one of his most popular and is a model for the genre like no other - Mozart forever!
