Nick McCarthy, former main songwriter of the ndierock band Franz Ferdinand, left the band in 2016 and moved to Germany. There he continued his musical journey with projects such as the anarcho-pop collective Lunsentrio, the krautrock band Embryo, the electro duo Ströme and together with his wife Manuela Gernedel (Box Codax, Manuela). He also writes film and theater music. In 2020, he met Niklas Mitteregger, a musician and actor from Graz, at the Munich Residenztheater. Together they founded the duo NITSCH and have been releasing music since 2022, supported by the Berlin label Staatsakt. Their second single "Is ok" attracted a lot of attention, and the music video for "Ende der Welt" won 1st prize at the Rotterdam Film Festival. Their debut EP "Nieder mit der Welt" was released in March 2024, accompanied by their first live shows. Her new single and the album from which it was released in September 2024 are both called "Bar von Josefine", inspired by the Graz cult bar "Cafe Hello Josefine". NITSCH creates a mixture of Austropop, Italo disco and indie rock, with their songs often revolving around the various facets of love. With their music, they invite you into the nostalgic world of Josefine's bar, a place of digital detox and emotional encounters. Welcome to Josefine's bar!
