Myriam Gendron

We have invited another artist from the long list of artists we absolutely want to invite to Cologne, more precisely to the studio of our friends at 674FM, namely the Montreal-based folk singer and composer Myriam Gendron.

Mayday is her third album, which was recently released after the critically acclaimed albums Not So Deep As A Well (2014) and Ma délire - Songs of love, lost & found (2021).

Before her debut album, Myriam was mainly a busker in the Paris metro stations, singing songs by Leonard Cohen and others while accompanying herself on the guitar. While working in a bookstore in Montreal, she discovered the poetry of writer Dorothy Parker , who was known more for her biting humor than her poetry. Inspired by her words, she wrote music to a series of poems and recorded them in her bedroom. These recordings were released, delighting listeners who discover them with their freshness, clarity and humor. After a short break, Myriam began exploring the complex folk traditions of Québec and recorded the LP Ma délire, which combines traditional songs (mostly in French) with arrangements. And Mayday is a sequel that succeeds in creating new soundscapes while maintaining an intimate and familiar atmosphere. A beautiful work.
