"Can you feel anything yet? I think it's about to start." This is how Nicola Rost opens her solo debut, which will be published in 2024. It will be different, new and yet familiar, tried and tested and yet full of courage. It's a step towards you, an outstretched hand from the stage.
Nicola, founder, writer and producer of the Berlin band Laing, only now without, only now solo. She has scaled peaks and experienced success. Top ten singles, sold-out houses, Eurovision participation, Tiktok trends, the tender stroke across the soul: Laing have been there. Nicola Rost was right in the middle of it all, but always part of a band, a complex stage concept, a quartet of costumes. She is now shedding all these protective and alienating layers.
What remains: Reduction to the maximum. Dancing synthpop. A voice through which the light can sometimes be scattered in all corners of the world, sometimes focused precisely and burning hot on individual moments, moments of life, passions.
What it becomes: the cone of light instead of the gala evening. A new closeness instead of polyphonic staging. "Wait and see," promises Nicola: "It will be even more beautiful."
