Norma Winstone & Kit Downes: Outpost Of Dreams (Hessisches Jazzpodium 2024)

The CD Outpost Of Dreams, recorded in Udine/Italy in April 2023, introduces a new cross-generational duo partnership. Norma Winstone, a jazz singer and lyricist of unobtrusive ingenuity, brings her vocal subtlety and poetic sensibility to new pieces by Kit Downes and compositions by Carla Bley, Ralph Towner and John Taylor. The program is rounded out with creative interpretations of traditionals and pieces from previous productions. Downes presents elegantly phrased accompaniment and subtle melodic interjections throughout."...her voice more than a color, concentrating on lyrics she has written herself and their sensitive interpretation. The Hessian Jazz Podium 2024 will be held from 5 to 8 December on behalf of the Hessian Ministry of Science, Art and Culture (HMWK), 2 days each at the Romanfabrik and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK). Presentation of the Hessian Jazz Award to John Schröder on 8.12.24. In cooperation with the Jazz-Initiative Frankfurt and with the kind support of the Hessian Ministry of Science, Art and Culture (HMWK) and the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain.
