Null Zucker

In the organizer's words:

"Bir lisan, bir insan. Iki lisan, iki Insan / One language, one person. Two languages, two people" is a Turkish proverb. But can I choose a different perspective, a new personality, by learning another language? Language shapes the way I think and also who I am. Not finding words creates a gap between language and reality. This gap is not accidental - it reveals the prevailing power relations in a society. The exiled author Asli Erdogan defines the Turkish language as her homeland, which she loves above all else. In 2022, she describes: "Now that I haven't been in Turkey for five years, the words are getting quieter. I am losing my homeland." During Algeria's war of independence, the artist Etel Adnan refused to continue working in French and showed solidarity with Algeria: "I no longer needed to write in French, I wanted to paint in Arabic". Based on these different personalities and perspectives, Tanju Girişken sets out with the ensemble and people from Dortmund in search of alternative dimensions and new tools when words fail. What ways of thinking, what common expressions do they find? And in what language does this search take place?

Tanju Girişken, born in Izmir in 1989, studied acting at Istanbul University. His first permanent engagement took him to the Istanbul Municipal Theater in 2014. In 2017, he moved to Berlin and performed in Nurkan Erpulat's Lö Grand Bal Almanya at Maxim G orki Theater. 2020-2023 he studied directing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in cooperation with the Bayerische Theaterakademie. He was invited to the Körber Studio Junge Regie in Hamburg with his final project for a limited period/forever.
