One Billion Rising 2024 - Düsseldorf stands up, strikes and dances for an end to violence against women and girls!

Every 3rd woman worldwide has already been a victim of violence, has been beaten, forced into sexual contact, raped or abused in some other way. One in three women, that is one billion women, who have been subjected to violence. Behind these often quoted figures are the fates of women who have to struggle with the consequences of these acts of violence for the rest of their lives.

New York artist Eve Ensler wanted to do something to counter these terrible figures. And so she launched the ONE BILLION RISING campaign in 2013. A global day of action to draw attention to the issue of violence against women and girls. Since then, people of all genders around the world have joined forces to demonstrate strength and global solidarity across all borders. Since then, people on all continents have been dancing together on February 14 to the song "Break the chain".

Unfortunately, even after 10 years, it is still necessary to celebrate this day of action.

In Germany alone (as of February 2, 2024), the 19th femicide of the still so young year 2024 has already been counted. And that is just the tip of a terrible iceberg with structural roots.

The campaign in Düsseldorf will give young women and girls a voice to speak out on this issue. Poets and musicians who stand up for this issue will frame the event before those in attendance dance and make a statement.

This year, Düsseldorf musician Aylin Celik and slam poet Morgaine Prinz will be performing.
