SOMMERKINO - Balmy summer nights. Cinema under the stars. The open-air cinema summer belongs to the hot months like ice cream to the swimming pool.

For several years now, Odonien has hosted an annual summer cinema, which we have curated again this year together with the Filmfestivalcologne. For some films there will be a small program before and after the film, all information can be found in the event information.

83 people from Benin, Sudan and Yemen have set off in search of a better life in Europe.
This film follows the crew of the rescue ship Sea Punk I as they try to prevent what has been happening more and more frequently in recent years: People dying during the crossing to Europe.
What does it feel like to take part in this operation in Europe's largest graveyard? Who are these people who are trying to fight Europe's racist border regime?

Gerson (co-founder of Sea Punks e. V.) was on our first operation in September 2023 and shot footage for this film. From this he edited a very personal 47-minute documentary.
