Opening Night

In the organizer's words:

Myrtle Gordon is a celebrated star. In the play "The Second Wife", she is to play Virginia, a childless, ageing woman. But the rehearsals are disastrous because Myrtle fears the end of her career if she plays the role the way the author and director want her to. Virginia is an invisible woman, without opinion or point of view. But Myrtle needs visibility, because as an actress she only exists through the eyes of the audience. Because she receives no answers to her questions, she sabotages the rehearsals, changes the text, drinks, pulls all-nighters and loses herself in hallucinations in which she meets a young woman. For Myrtle, she is a mirror full of hopes and possibilities that she herself can only live out in the world of acting. Her colleagues are angry because she arrives late and drunk as a skunk at the gala premiere in New York. The audience whistles and screams. Can Myrtle bring Virginia to the stage? Will the curtain rise? It's the night of the decision.
