Opening: Sarah Pierce: Scene of the Myth

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition Sarah Pierce: Scene of the Myth.
The guest curator Rike Frank and the artist Sarah Pierce will be present.

In collaboration with IMMA - Irish Museum of Modern Art and the European Kunsthalle, the GfZK presents Sarah Pierce: Scene of the Myth, curated by Rike Frank.

With Scene of the Myth, the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Leipzig (GfZK) presents the first comprehensive solo exhibition of the artist Sarah Pierce in Germany from January 26 - May 26, 2024. The exhibition, which was previously shown at the Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin (IMMA), brings together eight expansive installations, performances and video works created over a period of 20 years. Taking as its starting point the difficult relationships between the narratives we reproduce and those we wish to leave behind, Scene of the Myth asks what it means to gather, reflect and act in a community. Numerous works relate to the artist's interest in the figure of the student and the fragile relationship between learning and teaching, politics and art-making. Students are regular participants in the performances and demonstrations.

The project is part of Zeitgeist Ireland 24, an initiative of Culture Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Germany.
