Founded back in 1970 and still at the cutting edge: the Senegalese orchestra Baobab has always been one of the most exciting groups in the triangle between jazz, Afro-pop, soul and Cuban sounds.
The legendary Senegalese band is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with the new album, single and tour "50 ANS" - a tribute to the different generations that have inspired the group in its five great decades of musical joy.
Look forward to a rich and intense rhythmic base, captivating melodic vocals and great horn arrangements. Baobab's sound is indeed intact, a unique blend of Afro-Cuban style, international pop and traditional griot music. Their creativity is always driven by fabulous melodies that have made Orchestra Baobab's reputation!
"The decades go by, but we're still here," the group's oldest musicians seem to say, such as Thierno Koité on saxophone, Moussa Sissokho on congas, Taga Koité on drums or Yahya Fall on rhythm guitar. "Our group is united," add the youngest members. We are united in all our diversity, old or young, yes, this group is an institution, but we continue our journey with the same legendary enthusiasm, always cheerful, more accomplices than ever!
