This Thursday: Pouya Abdi Quartett
The debut album "Govinda and Kamala" by the young Hamburg guitarist Pouya Abdi deals with many themes: his connection with Iranian culture and his family, but also literary works such as Hermann Hesse's novel "Siddhartha", which influenced several tracks on the album.
With composers such as Pat Metheny, Avishai Cohen and Tom Jobim in mind, the quartet focuses on spontaneity and honesty in improvisation. Risks are taken and wild rides are ventured - but always with the knowledge that everyone has each other's backs. The energetic and emotionally charged playing of Russian saxophonist Kamil Khusiainov, the powerful and vocal sound of Lennart Meyer on bass and the spiritual and unique playing of Brazilian drummer Rafa Müller, together with the lyrical and profound compositions of Pouya Abdi, create the distinctive and full sound of the quartet, whose album has been available since May 2024.
