Compared to the Freimarkt, the Osterwiese is still a "young" folk festival. It was held for the first time in 1928 as the "Oster-Volksfest" in Halmerweg in Gröpelingen.
It was given the name "Osterwiese" in 1933.
There was no Osterwiese from 1941 to 1945.
After the war, the first Easter meadow was held on the Bürgerweide from April 12 to 22, 1946.
