Overcoming Trauma – Celebrating Queerness

In the organizer's words:

Overcoming Trauma - Celebrating Queerness

THE drag show for the cinema premiere of "Baldiga - Unsecured Heart"

Queer people have always faced particular challenges and have been confronted with social exclusion and stigmatization. Drag is one of our creative responses as a community to these challenges. The Berlin photographer Jürgen Baldiga (1959-1993) documented the Berlin drag scene of the 1980s like no other, creating valuable contemporary documents. He unfortunately fell ill with AIDS at an early age and documented his own illness story and recorded it for posterity. The documentary film "Baldiga - Entsichertes Herz" by Leipzig director Markus Stein and author Ringo Rösner is an impressive portrait of Baldiga's life (and work) and gives us an insight into his short but intense life.

Leipzig drag artists Teilzeitprinzessin Linette and Athena Owls have put together a great cast and invited experienced colleagues to share their own stories with the audience. You can expect touching lip-synch performances to which the artists themselves will give an insight into their creative process and their world of thought. The aim is not to remain powerless and helpless, but to keep asking: What has helped in dealing with conflicts? What new and positive aspects have emerged from dark times?

There will also be a talk with AIDS-Hilfe Leipzig, because we want to understand: What was the AIDS crisis like in Leipzig and Saxony? What is the reality of life for people with HIV infections today? How are fear of illness and sexual morality related?

There will be room for deep emotions, shared laughter and "queer joy". During the evening, an awareness person will be present and available for you. Before and after the show, as well as during the interval, there will be a small information corner run by AIDS-Hilfe Leipzig.

Get your early-bird tickets now (limited contingent). There will also be a Box Office for last-minute tickets.
