Without the past, the moment of the present would be empty. Michael Jarrell's "Time Fragments" are a great reflection on questions of time and eternity, which the church teacher Augustine posed as early as 400 AD in his "Confessions". The poet Gottfried Keller strikes "silver strings" in his poem "Jugendgedenken": their fading becomes a symbol of transience. The South Korean composer Younghi Pagh-Paan was inspired by this to create a delicate piece. Fragility and fading are also the theme of Caspar Johann Walter's music. Wolfgang Rihm revisits "Nachtmusik" from a contemporary perspective, and Henze's double adagio exudes sweet nostalgia. Memories of bygone eras pass by in sepia tones.
