Prateek Kuhad has steadily risen to become a star of the indie and singer-songwriter genre in his home country of India. But as soon as Spotify India went online around three years ago, the 33-year-old musician became one of the most streamed artists in the country. Praised by Rolling Stone India as "one of the country's leading singer-songwriters", Prateek Kuhad has also taken the rest of the world by storm in recent years. His songs, which he performs in both Hindi and English, inspire with their cinematic songwriting and have earned him awards and honors around the world. Prateek Kuhad has already been described as an "Indian Paul Simon with the sadness of Damien Rice"; even former US President Barack Obama included Kuhad's "Cold/Mess" on his Songs of the Year playlist in 2019. The release of his fourth album "The Way That Lovers Do" and the EP "Mulaqat ", which was released at the end of 2023 and sung in Hindi, are reason enough for Prateek Kuhad to return to Munich and Berlin for two shows in October 2024. The musician has already successfully played several concerts in Germany in the fall of 2022.

Once listeners have fallen under the spell of his songs and his voice, Kuhad's rise to worldwide fame could be seen as only logical. In truth, however, he was a late bloomer. Growing up in the Indian city of Jaipur, Prateek Kuhad' s musical horizon in his childhood consisted of Indian pop and Bollywood soundtracks. His exposure to Western music was limited. And the guitar didn't work out either: neither during his guitar lessons as a child nor later during a second attempt at high school did he find a connection to the instrument. So instead he enrolled at university in New York to study mathematics and economics - and suddenly Kuhad' s eyes were opened to a new world of music: "Elliott Smith is to blame for the fact that I ended up becoming a musician after all," he says. "His music changed everything for me. Later, I started listening to Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie or newer artists like Laura Marling and Fleet Foxes. That inspired me to get serious about the guitar and write my own songs."

Prateek's debut album "In Tokens and Charms" was an instant hit and earned the artist an MTV Europe Music Award, the iTunes "Indie Album of the Year" award and the title of "Best Pop Artist" at the Radio City Freedom Awards. His second album "Cold/Mess" , released in 2018, also achieved international success and landed among the "Indie Albums of the Year" on Spotify and iTunes. Kuhad went on to sell out halls and amphitheaters across India and supported artists such as Alt-J and Mike Posner. In 2019, he also celebrated his breakthrough in North America with a highly acclaimed performance at SXSW and a headlining tour across the country. He completed headlining and festival appearances in the USA, Australia, Singapore, Canada and France. While the number of hits on Spotify continued to rise; he currently has around four million monthly listeners, while individual songs are easily scratching the 100 million streams mark.

The American press quickly noticed what millions of listeners around the world already knew: Austin Monthly called him "a genuine international sensation", US Weekly praised his music as "beautifully haunting" and Brooklyn Vegan celebrated his "angelic vocals". After the very personal predecessor "Shehron Ke Raaz" , the current album "The Way That Lovers Do" is a return to Kuhad 's core lyrical theme: love in all its beautiful to destructive complexity. The result is dreamy, unpretentious, warm and highly touching at every moment.
