Prof. Dr. Büchter-Römer and pianist Nadja Bulovic shed light on key works and personalities in German and European history. "We dreamed of nothing but enlightenment", said Moses Mendelssohn, but the path from the Enlightenment to Romanticism was characterized by political upheaval, resignation and, at the same time, subliminal rebellion. Poems, reflections and compositions reveal the disappointments and longings of a time that ranged from the French Revolution to the reactions to the Congress of Vienna. Authors such as Bettina von Arnim, Georg Büchner, Heinrich Heine and Hoffmann von Fallersleben as well as important women such as Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and Fanny Hensel sought new forms of expression.
Musical works by Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Chopin accompany these literary and historical reflections and bring the spirit of the era to life.
