Reframing Wilhelm Workshop

In the organizer's words:

Frameorial invites you to the Reframing Wilhelm Workshop. Together we want to explore the monument of Wilhelm II on the Hohenzollern Bridge, exchange ideas about how history and memory shape us, and implement our own ideas.

The monument of Wilhelm II shapes the Cologne cityscape. But why does this monument exist? Who was Wilhelm II anyway? And why should we be interested in all this? Many people don't know what Wilhelm II did wrong and why his image in the city is questionable. Therefore, we want to deal with the history of the monument together in order to develop artistic counter-designs afterwards.

The counter-designs created during the workshop will then be shown in the exhibition Reframing Wilhelm: The Deconstruction of a Monument at the &wieder from November 09-11, 2023.

Frameorial is a collective from NRW of people from the fields of history, art and culture. Nothing is more invisible in the cityscape than old monuments. That's why on our blog and Instagram channel we tell stories about monuments all over the world and how they are reframed, i.e. re-contextualized or differently contextualized. We want to make stories visible in public space and show that not everything that is, has to stay that way. Because only when we become aware of the past, we can change the future!

The workshop is free of charge. However, due to limited places, we ask for registration.
