Responsive Round - Klub Girko

In the organizer's words:

Responsive Round

A circus performance for the whole family - from the age of 5.

A performer moves in an intimate circle with balanced and falling bamboo poles. Who catches the sticks, however, remains an open question during the 35-minute show. Using this actually simple idea, the performer plays with the audience's natural reactions to manipulate not only the bamboo, but also the audience's focus and attention. A special sound concept captivates the audience and makes the seduction perfect.

The audience sits in a circle 5 meters in diameter and the performance takes place in the middle of this arena. In this small circle, the performer plays with bamboo sticks. Masterful object manipulation. Sometimes sticks fall - even towards the audience. They instinctively try to catch the sticks. Is it intentional? By chance? Mistake? Initially shy, the spectators then become braver and more playful and not only pass the sticks back to the performer, but also to the person sitting next to them, to the right or left. In this way, an initially passive spectator situation grows into a participatory togetherness. The performer motivates the spectators and directs the game. On the one hand, a relationship of trust develops between the performer and participants, while on the other, dependencies or power relationships develop, which in turn can lead to different emotions. This makes each performance a unique experience for all participants, including the performer.

Klub Girko

Klub Girko is a collective looking for new and contemporary ways to work with circus disciplines, combining circus with dance, theater, music and visual arts. They are driven by the desire to keep things moving and not rest in an established comfort zone or style. Therefore, KLUB GIRKO sees itself as a framework for artistic explorations, collaborations and creations of many kinds. Organized as a collective, each project includes different members and different collaborations with external parties. Founded in 2017 by Josef Stiller and Julian Vogel in the Netherlands, KLUB GIRKO has been based in Jena/DE since 2021 and is led by Josef Stiller and Moritz Grenz.
