Filmmaker Andres Veiel (BEUYS) asks himself how to approach a woman who entrenched herself behind a tangle of legends, half-truths and lies throughout her life. He spent more than two years researching the estate of Hitler's favorite filmmaker and sifting through documents. Veiel does not fall for Riefenstahl's self-mythologization. Above all, he exposes the popular separation of her person and her art as problematic: her films and photos show that she was not simply a political opportunist.
