Roundtable digital / #WissKomm – Kommunizieren in der Kunstgeschichte

In the organizer's words:

The transformation process of academic communication undoubtedly also affects art history. In the online series "Roundtable digital / #WissKomm - Communicating in art history" with experts, we want to discuss and explore open-ended possibilities and risks as well as opportunities and challenges. We will ask about prerequisites, framework conditions and costs, social relevance, feedback and interference - what exactly does this change mean for art history? How can we use tools and infrastructures for our discipline?

Roundtable on 6.2.2024
Virtual reality and augmented reality in exhibitions - challenges, forms of presentation and modes of mediation

Since the 1950s, computers have increasingly become an artistic medium. Even though digital technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality have been integrated into the visual arts since the 1980s, there has so far been a lack of reflection and discussion in the context of art historical research and exhibitions. The open discussion panel will talk about forms of presentation and mediation of digital artworks from a curatorial and scientific-historical perspective. What modes of perception are challenged when artworks only become visible via VR glasses, a QR code or an app and what (co-)design space do users have in the respective interface? How does art history deal with these changed conditions of reception, production and distribution? Peggy Schoenegge(peer to space), Ursula Ströbele (HBK Braunschweig) and Annette Urban (Ruhr-Universität Bochum) will talk about this.

The event will take place exclusively online via Zoom. The Zoom link and further information on the event can be found[here].
