Based on the Brothers Grimm - for children aged 5 and over

Miller Franz and his daughter Lotte are very poor. Nevertheless, the evil count comes every year to collect taxes for the king. But the miller has no more money, so he has to give up the mill. Lotte offers to work for the king - she is hard-working and can do a lot, she says, even spinning. The evil count mockingly promises to spare her father if she spins straw into gold. Lotte agrees for the time being and hopes that everything will turn out well after all. She is locked in a chamber and the next morning the count wants to see the gold threads, otherwise he will take her father's mill. At midnight, a little man appears and offers to spin gold for Lotte. All he asks for in return is her necklace. The next morning, the chamber is full of gold. But the evil count wants even more and has new straw brought in. In the evening, the little man comes again and offers his services once more - he wants Lotte's ring. But Lotte is asked to spin for a third night and the little man comes again, but this time he wants something else: the first child Lotte will have. Lotte agrees.

In the meantime, the good kitchen boy Bastian has told the king about Lotte. The king becomes curious, finds Lotte in the tower room and is immediately in love with her. The two marry and have a child a year later. Then the little man reappears and demands what he was promised: Lotte's child - unless Lotte can guess his name.
