Ruth Landshoff-Yorck (1904-1966) was a literary star of the turbulent and party-loving Weimar Republic. She played tennis, drove fast cars, loved women and men, worked as a nude model, acted, plunged into the nightlife and socialized with Thomas Mann, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Marlene Dietrich. Above all, however, she was a great writer who wrote sparkling feuilletons and glamorous, jazzy novels. Or as the well-known cultural critic Friedrich Sieburg put it: "With her, everything is champagne."
The 120th birthday of this hedonistic woman, who loved to play with gender roles, is being celebrated with a literary evening. Her biographer Thomas Blubacher will present Landshoff-Yorck's multifaceted life, while actress Nina Alpers will read short texts by the author.
