"Mephisto"
Sabine Wackernagel reads from the famous novel "Mephisto", which Klaus Mann published in Amsterdam in 1936. It is about the actor Hendrik Höfgen, who became involved with those in power in National Socialist Germany and thus became a traitor to his own ideals. It is a story about adaptation and resistance, careerism and morality. Set in Nazi Germany in the 1930s, it is disturbingly timeless and therefore also topical for us.
Hartmut Schmidt, accordion and Frank Pecher, guitar play melodies from the 20s and 30s.
