Palaces, castles, manors ...

... and what remains of them. This tour goes in search of Cologne's medieval nobility. We visit knights' castles, mills and estates. We hear about the Lords of Berg, the paper industry, grain mills and the tireless Strunde river that drives the mill wheels.

One thing is clear. There are far more castles and fortresses on the Schäl Sick than on the left bank of the Rhine in the urban area. When you think of castles and knights, Rhinelanders tend to think of the moated castles on the Eft and the "Romantic Rhine" between Bingen and Koblenz. But Cologne also has a lot to offer in this respect - especially on the right bank of the Rhine. In terms of castles and estates, we take a look at Gut Schlagbaum, Isenburg, Gut Iddelsfeld, Thurner Hof and Gut Mielenforst. The Strunde river powers several mills there. We visit the Herler Mühle and the Schweinheimer Mühle. Bernd Imgrund will tell us what all this has to do with the Lords of Berg.
