For Sigrid Unterwurzacher, painting is a way of exploring inner, invisible worlds and giving them form. At the heart of her work is the painterly process, in which the painter's instincts, emotions and drives are just as important as the materiality of the different materials she uses to work the paper. Her paintings are allowed to grow organically, layer by layer, and become manifestations of an internal as well as external reality, which are only tangible for the artist herself after their completion.
Sigrid Unterwurzacher (*1993) grew up in the Austrian mountains and now lives and works in Hamburg, where she completed her illustration studies at the HAW in 2024 with a bachelor's degree in painting.
