Silvesterkonzert mit Beethovens 9. Symphonie

In the organizer's words:

"O friends, not these notes! But let us sing more pleasant and more joyful ones!" With this simple request Ludwig van Beethoven introduces the hymn of joy in his 9th Symphony. Shortly before this, a threatening-dissonant chaos music is heard, which the bassist imperiously rejects with his short recitative. What an ingenious trick Beethoven uses here to conclusively justify the entrance of singing voices, to shape the transition from a purely instrumental section to a choral finale. And what significance lies in this brief transition: here Beethoven breaks the boundaries of symphonic music, here the melody of joy rises to a sung celebration of humanity. In our performances of the 9th Symphony this year, bass-baritone Florian Bösch takes on this important task, preparing the ground for his soloist colleagues Christina Landshamer, Marianne Beate Kielland and Sebastian Kohlhepp, as well as for the Philharmonic Choir. Pablo Heras-Casado, a welcome guest conductor with the Munich Philharmonic for many years, takes over the direction of the traditional New Year's Eve concerts.
