The year is 1995 and New York is on fire. The Wu-Tang Clan has just opened its "36 Chambers" and Notorious B.I.G. heralds a new era in the rap genre with his debut "Ready To Die". Many rap fans will remember this time forever as the best ever. In this groundbreaking time for the future of hip hop, however, a debut album that fits perfectly into these days is lost: Smif'N'Wessun's "Dah Shinin'". In 1993, the two rappers Tek and Steele meet. Both come from Brooklyn. Both were influenced by the streets. Just like the other guys around them: Ruck aka Sean Price and Rock, later known as Heltah Skeltah, rapper Buckshot, who forms the trio Black Moon with 5ft and Evil Dee (Da Beatminerz), as well as Starang Wondah, Top Dog and Louieville Sluggah (working together as Originoo Gunn Clappaz). Together they formed the Brooklyn collective Boot Camp Clik, which acted as an artistic rallying point for the Duck Down label and made its celebrated debut on the scene in 1997 with "For The People". Years later, Tek & Steele also appeared on the Boot Camp Clik albums "The Chosen Few" and "The Last Stand". Brooklyn, better known as Bucktown in Boot Camp Clik lingo, provides the rappers' raw identity and tailors a gritty, bass-heavy sound for the posse.
Smif N Wessun are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their legendary album "Dah Shinin" with a tour and a special show!
