The documentation site "Gelsenkirchen under National Socialism" was opened on May 8, 1994 at one of the few remaining historical sites from the time of the "Third Reich" in Gelsenkirchen and is located in a former police building from 1907. During the Nazi era, the building was the headquarters of the NSDAP local group leadership in Buer-Erle, among others. Since then, the core of the documentation site has been a permanent exhibition, which focuses on the history of the National Socialist regime in seven rooms using the city of Gelsenkirchen as an example. In addition, the facility is used for political education and also offers the opportunity to engage with German history at a local level.
