TÄBRIZ - NUR IN GUTE HÄNDE

A CITY AND ITS CARPET With over 1.5 million inhabitants, Tabriz (also known as Tabriz or Tabris) is the cultural heart of Iranian Azerbaijan. The city is located in the north-west of Iran not far from the Turkish border and thus on the route of the legendary Silk Road. Tabriz was once considered the gateway to the Orient. The carpets of the same name were and still are hand-knotted here in large weaving mills. A Tabriz carpet has a very high knot density and therefore an exceptionally fine pattern.

A NEWSPAPER ADVERTISEMENT AND ITS CONSEQUENCES "Tabriz, very well cared for, only for sale in good hands, as well as porcelain, chandeliers, water pipe, hats from household liquidation... 17 33 4" - this is the advertisement in a newspaper placed by an elderly lady, Berta Hochwegen. The response is overwhelming: while one gentleman thinks he could buy a dog, a young student says "where there's a clear-out, there's space" and hopes to find an apartment. The valuable carpet also attracts fraudsters. Berta gradually tells the various callers her whole life, until one day she realizes that she has been talking to the same man every time. But Berta refuses to be intimidated and launches a counter-attack.

A PRESENTATION The actress Paula-Maria Kirschner has been part of the ensemble of the Landestheater Niederbayern for over 35 years. Here she has played important roles in all genres that the theater has to offer. She played Marie in Woyzeck, Adrian in the summer night sex comedy, Marthe Rull in Zerbrochnen Krug and Martha Brewster in Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen - to name but a few. She also wrote Rumpelstiltskin and Sleeping Beauty, plays based on the Grimm fairy tales, for her own puppet theater. Täbriz - Nur in gute Hände is her first full-length play, which is now being premiered at the Landestheater Niederbayern.
