taz Salon über Bremer Drogenpolitik: Gibt es Wege aus der Krise?

In the organizer's words:

The open drug scene is increasingly being pushed away from Bremen's main railway station into the city districts, residents are complaining and the situation for drug users remains inhumane. What needs to happen now?

At first glance, the lines of conflict seem clear: here are the residents who have to deal with the presence and legacy of users of illegal drugs. There are the drug users, who are in a bad way, whose situation is precarious and who are seen by many as a problem rather than as people who need support.

Life with illegalized drugs can be deadly and it is usually not the drugs themselves that cause death, but the external circumstances of consumption.

What is already being done in Bremen to resolve these conflicts and what still needs to happen so that the city can be a good place to live for both drug users and other residents? Are the lines of conflict always so easy to draw? What is going wrong in the discourse and what are the systemic reasons behind the current crisis?

In the taz Salon, we discuss with guests who live a life with drugs, who deal with the concerns of people who use drugs on a daily basis in social work or who work in Bremen's administration to improve drug policy.
