The Art of Improvisation: Sound, Light & Dance

In the organizer's words:

On this second TAOI evening in 2024, we look forward to another extraordinary concert evening under the motto: SOUND, LIGHT & DANCE, which, as always with "The Art of Improvisation", focuses on artistic improvisation - whereby traditional boundaries between the fields of music, dance and visual art as well as stylistic genres are artistically questioned on this evening.

The ensemble, consisting of top-class international guests, embarks on a performative-aesthetic exploration - and on the search for something that could perhaps be described as a contemporary ecological-holistic synthesis of the production of artistic and social experience.

As always with TAOI, this time too there will be a meeting of performers from different cultural backgrounds and generations on the stage of the resonanzraum St. Pauli: from Hungary and France, the two "old masters" of contemporary music György Kurtag jr. (electronics) and Jean-Charles François (percussion), from Berlin the dancer and "improvisation researcher" Susanne Martin, from Hamburg the great "genre jumper" John Eckhardt (double bass) and the host Vlatko Kučan (reeds). The younger generation is represented by the Sri Lankan singer Hania Mariam Luthufi, the Spanish pianist Alicia Reyes, the Brazilian composer Matheus Souza (violin, electronics) and the Vietnamese performer Tam Thi Pham (dan bau). And last-but-not-least, Hamburg-based light artist Katrin Bethge will turn the evening into a multimedia-transdisciplinary experience with her live-painting projections.

We are therefore very excited about this special TAOI project and look forward to a unique concert experience.
