Since the turn of the millennium, the Black Lips have evolved from feral garage rockers into a group of Lynchian surrealists intent on recalibrating the history of rock 'n' roll. With a raw, dirty and dynamic sound that combined the most urgent phase of the Stones, Southern country twang, Motown soul and the raw feedback power of the Stooges, they have provided countless infamous, chaotic, wild and celebrated shows. "Apocalypse Love", their latest album, is an album that beams from a jukebox in a dive bar hidden in the far corners of your mind; with a playlist that veers between doom-glam, Plastic Ono sing-along sessions, cocktail-shaken space-pop, Morricone scores and lo-fi outsider-acoustic punk, with mariachi horns, theremins, drum machines and harmonies filtering through the infectious melodies.
