The Waack Off - Festival

The Waack Off is a festival dedicated to the dance style *Waacking.

**Waacking is a dance style that originated in the disco era of the early 70's in the Afro Latinx American LGBT* community in Los Angeles.

A dynamic festival where artists and participants engage in an exchange of ideas and redefine the boundaries of their creativity. There will be a jam session, a panel talk, battles, workshops and an after party. An environment is created that promotes growth, innovation and lasting connections. The offerings are not just for the community, but for anyone interested in learning about the Waacking dance style and cultural practices. You can only take part in the battles if you have registered in advance. Just come and enjoy this beautiful dance style and community.

On Saturday 14.12. there will be two performative battles: The first is a "Waacking" battle, which is about coming together and exchanging with other dancers and dealing with live musicians. The second battle is the improvisation format "moment(urb)an", which was created by the dance collective nutrospektif. It challenges dancers to solve movement tasks in 3 rounds, deal with cross-genre music and develop their own staging ideas. It expands artistic thinking and overcomes creative boundaries through improvisational exchange, resulting in unique and unpredictable moments.

Afterwards there will be an after party at the Lola Bar in Düsseldorf. Waacking is a dance style that originated in the gay clubs of LA (USA). We would like to dedicate ourselves to this history of Waacking and celebrate the dance style in its origin and tradition. So come party with us.
